This charming introduction to Puglia’s natural landscapes and fine wines is based around the site of the “Challenge of Barletta” tournament.
Its combination of nature, history and fine food and wine is designed to introduce visitors to the multi-faceted character of this splendid region.
Meet up at the airport with our tour guide and drive to Canosa di Puglia.
Arrival at a well-known farm-winery complex with a welcome drink and check in.
In the evening an introduction to the area and the places we will be visiting. Plus a meeting with the owners and a tasting session of the wines they produce.
Dinner at a rustic farmhouse with typical local products and then back to bed at the farm.
Breakfast and start of the first stage of the tour.
After a visit to a well-known winery in Canosa di Puglia, we then travel to Minervino Murge where we will visit the San Michele Caves and sample some excellent dairy products in a local farmhouse.
In the afternoon we will visit a well known vegetable garden, pick wild herbs and then enjoy dinner at the restaurant next door.
Overnight stay in an eco-farmhouse.
Breakfast and start of the second tour stage that will finish in Andria.
Along the way we will visit a famous wine cellar and an oil museum in a typical local farmhouse.
Having reached Andria we will visit the dairy where they make the famous Burrata cheese, sample numerous high quality dairy products and view the “G. Mucci” Comfit Museum. During the tour we will stop briefly at the cathedral of Andria, where the Italian “Challenge of Barletta” knights took their vows and 2 of the 4 wives of Frederick II are buried.
Dinner at a well known local restaurant and an overnight stay in a B&B.
Breakfast and start of the third tour stage which will first visit the battle site and Epitaph of the “Challenge of Barletta”. From there we will travel to Trani. On the way we will visit a famous wine cellar and sample some typical local food and wine.
In the afternoon, we will arrive in Trani along the charming sea road and check in at a hotel in the old town centre. A guided tour of the town centre is then followed by dinner overlooking the harbour with typical local products. Then back to bed at the hotel.
Breakfast and departure for Barletta.
This last stage of the tour includes a visit to two well-known farms with top quality local product tastings.
We will arrive in Barletta in the early afternoon, check in at our hotel and enjoy a guided tour of the various “Challenge of Barletta” sites. Dinner at a typical local restaurant and back to bed at the hotel.
