This charming tour will take you into the heart of some of Puglia’s most beautiful heritage and countryside.
Starting from Matera and its wonderful ancient centre of Sassi, dug out from the rock and now considered a World Heritage Site, we will continue onto the so-called ‘Murgia dei Trulli’ region.
Trulli are typical stone houses with conical roofs and we will explore then in detail when we reach the town of Alberobello (another World Heritage Site). Then we will move onto the spectacular village of Polignano a Mare with its cliff-top houses and Monopoli with its grand cathedral.
Then, following spectacular flat and rolling nature trails we will reach the heart of the Itria valley. The old town centre of Locorotondo waits with its winding streets, flower-lined balconies and excellent white wine. Then there is Cisternino famous for its meat and Ostuni, known as the ‘white city’ on account of the bleached white walls of its houses.
From there we cycle onto the Salento region with the enchanting baroque art of Lecce and the wonderful old town of Otranto.
