Gourmet tour in search of Puglia’s fine food and wines

From a visit to the famous dairies of the Andria region to tasting Altamura’s unforgettable bread and then down to Lecce to discover Salento’s fine wines, this tour is a splendid introduction to this area’s many fine tastes and flavours.

THE TOUR

1ST DAY

Meet up at the airport with our tour guide and departure for hotel in
the centre of Bari.
Rickshaw sightseeing tour of the city.
Dinner in a typical restaurant in the city centre.
Return to hotel for overnight stay.

2ND DAY

Departure after breakfast for Andria, the home of “burrata” cheese and
a visit to a local dairy.
The excursion continues with a visit to a winery at Minervino Murge
for lunch and a local wine tasting.
In the afternoon, a tour of Castel del Monte, the famous
octagonal-shaped castle and World Heritage Site, followed by a visit to
an olive oil press near Bitonto for an olive oil tasting.
Return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

3RD DAY

Departure after breakfast for Altamura, a tour of the city and a visit to
a traditional bakery with a demonstration and chance to taste typical
Altamura bread.
The excursion continues with a visit to a winery near Gioia del Colle
for lunch and a local wine tasting.
In the afternoon, drive to a typical country house in the Itria Valley.
Dinner and overnight stay.

4TH DAY

Departure after breakfast for a farm complex in Martina Franca with a
demonstration of the “capocollo” (pork neck salami) production
process and tasting.
Drive to Alberobello, for a guided tour of the village and its
cone-shaped “trulli” stone houses that are the emblem of Puglia. This
World Heritage Site is a magical experience for both young and old.
Free time in the afternoon at Alberobello, followed by a drive to
Cisternino for a typical steak dinner at one of the town’s traditional
kiosks.
Return to the country house for overnight stay.

5TH DAY

Departure after breakfast for a guided tour of the hilltop town of Ostuni, known as the “white city”.
Drive to Savelletri for a fish lunch in a restaurant overlooking the sea.
In the afternoon, drive to hotel in the centre of Lecce and free time for shopping.
Free dinner.
Overnight stay at hotel.

6TH DAY

Departure after breakfast for Galatina, a brief tour of the Basilica
of Santa Caterina and a demonstration and sampling of the local
speciality, “pasticciotto” custard tarts.
Drive to Otranto for a light lunch in a typical restaurant.
Free afternoon.
Return to Lecce for dinner in a typical restaurant.
Overnight stay at hotel.

7th Day

Breakfast and free time in Lecce or the choice of: a cooking class, a
guided tour, etc.
Free lunch.
In the afternoon, visit to a winery for a Salento wine tasting session,
followed by a drive to a typical country house for a farewell dinner.
Return to the hotel for overnight stay.

8th Day

Checkout, drive to airport and departure.

The tour includes:
– reception at airport;
